Quick trip to St. George

The kids have a five day weekend and we wanted to do something fun. Andre's parents moved to St. George and we have wanted to see them, so we headed down south.  (this was the first time we made it all the way without a potty break. We are growing up!)

They like to hike and so do we so we ended up in Snow Canyon. We went on a hike that we have never gone on. It was the lava tube hike.

Lava Tubes are caves made by volcanoes many years ago. Don't ask me how they are made, it has been a long time since my brain has retained any useful information.  I do know that my kids were so excited to get in some caves. This one below was a really small one that they played in while we waited for our turn in the big one.

Here they go down the hole. It was pretty steep. (I did not go in. I am wimpy like that.) I guess there was a five foot drop off just out of sight of this picture. Once you get down that, you are in the cavern.

We walked down the trail a little bit more and found another opening. Here is a picture of the group by the cave entrance.

And there they go, down another hole.

My children are mountain goats. They love to climb on steep rocks.

Then we went to Jenny's Canyon (still in Snow Canyon). It is a small slot canyon that is not a very far hike. See how skinny it is?

Then we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house. The 3 younger kids had so much fun playing in their backyard. They played an imagination game where they acted out Plants verses Zombies.

Then we played lots and lots of board games. We all like games.

The next day after a few more games, we were off, headed north. But we took our time. 

We went to Kolob Canyon. It is right off of I15 just south of Cedar City. I have driven past this a lot of times and never knew it was there. It was beautiful.

There is about a one mile hike to look at the view. It was a fun hike. with lots of rocks to climb on.

Have I mentioned that my kids like to climb? This was like a cliff right along the road.

Then after we asked a nice person to jump our battery, we went on our way to Cove Fort. This is where the Hinkleys lived in the 1860's.  It was a stage coach stop, Telegraph station, and trading post. It was cool to explore it.

There was a fun thing at the end of the tour. The missionaries who took us on our tour had the boys close their eyes and walk straight forward until they pointed to a Book of Mormon (all different languages). This was a fun prediction where they might go on their missions. Two of them pointed to Hungarian Books of Mormon, one to Dutch, and Chase would not point to one (it was a long tour and he was done). We will see if the predictions come true!

It is always great to see grandma and grandpa, and now we get a little trip in there as well!
