Spring weekend

This last weekend was a fun one. The weather was great and we can finally go outside for long periods of time without a coat. We have been enjoying all kinds of parks lately, especially the new park near our house. But I have no pictures of that.

Saturday we went on a walk along the Jordan River.

                                                                           

Monday the kids didn't have school and Andre took the day off. We went down town. Tanner had recieved 4 free passes to the childrens museum- so we went. Andre and Jaxon did something else. 

Andre and Jaxon downloaded a Geocaching app onto my phone and learned how to geocache. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time- but with the acquisition of my smart phone- we can do it now. They didn't have a lot of luck before lunch. They went to 4-5 places, found where the cache was supposed to be, but never found anything. They went lots of cool places, just never scored. 

We got together for lunch and Jaxon showed his brothers how to do it. They were so intrigued. There was a cache right across the street from the restaurant. Of course we had to go find it.

We looked forever. It was in a plastic gum container and Chase found it, thought it was garbage, and threw it away from him. Andre and I said- that's it! Some caches have little toys or trinkets in them that you trade. The kids loved that idea. Of course Jaxon had a Magic card to trade.

The app told us that we needed to use extreme stealth in finding this because it is on such a busy corner.  Can I just say that stealth is not our strong point.

We went to a bank and found nothing. This was very discouraging to some of the kids- but oh well. There was no where else to look. 

 The next place was at some random corner in salt lake. It was called "the lonely bush" and it was at a lot that had nothing in it but a bush. We looked forever trying to find it. There was nothing there. You look at the hints, you look at the description, and pictures (all on the app). You know it has to be right there. According to the app, someone found it yesterday, it has to be there. Then finally, Chase was all the way in the bush digging around and found it! Success! It is like a treasure hunt.

Then we looked for one at Trolley square, but could not find it. It was supposed to be right on that tower.

Then we went to Liberty park.

There was one on/near this bridge.

They looked for 2-3 minutes (the instructions on this one were really good)

Success again.

It was in a gum container again. There is always a log- a place to sign that you found it.

This time we traded a magic card for this plastic frog.

This was a fun activity- and one that we can do wherever we are. There are thousands of them all around you and you'd never even know. There is even one at the park right by our house (looked for it during soccer practice but couldn't find it). And one about 1/4 mile from our house that Alex found last night.

 It is so exciting!
