Camping

Alex needed 3 more camping nights in order to get his Eagle. Since the ward is about done with Scouting and I have a scout troop in my family (scout leader and everything...) we went camping. I was brought along as the cook.

We left about 5 on Friday night after school and work. After a few stops for ice and gas, we got to our campsite about 8. It was super dark. So we set up our tents in the dark.

Once the tents and sleeping bags were out- we took some time to enjoy the stars. It was a new moon- which means no moon at all and it was a clear sky. It was amazing! The best was when Tanner said, "I feel a shooting star coming right now!" and it happened right then! it was so funny. Then Alex said it a few minutes later and it happened again! it was magic.

Tanner slept in his hammock all the nights.

We had pancakes that first morning

And Alex found a rubber duckie on his pancake.

The boys cooked the eggs and bacon.

Then we went fishing. After Jaxon got his mission call, we knew we had some time to camp. So we got online and found a reservation. It was the last reservation in a 2 hour drive from our house.

We normally would have camped by a lake but this time we hiked near a river. It was Bear River at Stillwater campground.

Then we drove to Whitney Reservoir. It was 9 miles of this view.

It was a fun reservoir- a bit cold. We were at 10,000 feet.

They stayed out for 30-45 minutes then came back in.

Then Andre tried to sleep in the boat.

Then there was 9 miles back of this view.

The after noon was resting and reading.

Then we made tin foil dinners. Our favorite kind. They have Ham, Keilbasa, potatoes, carrots, pineapple, butter, and brown sugar. Everything is cooked ahead of time so it is just heated up on the fire.

We started our phase 10 game that evening and we still have not finished.

Smores

The next morning we had a yummy sausage, egg, hash brown breakfast and then we went on a hike.

The hike was to Fehr lake. Then to Shepherd lake, then to Hoover Lake. There was about 1/2 mile in between each lake.

It was sooo beautiful.

 Tanner could slingshot the rocks almost to the other side. 

 Andre was trying to rest in the shade that afternoon and looked up and saw this huge wasp nest right above our tent. We ignored it and really didn't see those kind of wasps in our campsite.

That night we had spaghetti for dinner and we had a cherry lemon dump-cake in a dutch oven. It was delicious.

We continued our phase 10 game

We also got out some glow sticks and played bocce with glow sticks for a while in the dark. 

The next morning we tried to finish our phase 10 game and then we had to pack up. We left around 11 and got home around 1:00. 

It was a great camping trip. We all enjoyed ourselves. We were really tired on the way home. and really didn't do much the rest of the day (besides unpack).

Now-- Alex has completed all that he needs for his Eagle scout award.
